Sea Turtles by the Sea Shore, that is what our adventure was all about.  In an effort to break the winter cold we embarked on a week long cruise in the caribbean with our first stop Barbados. Having procrastinated on the excursion sign ups we missed out on the swimming with the Sea Turtles excursion. Bound and determined to see some Sea Turtles in the ocean we sought out some local advice to find a spot where we could see the little turtles.  The advice we got was to go to Oistins up the coast 30-40 minutes and we can take the bus..

A Fish Market, Someone Here Must Have A Suggestion

They were cleaning their catch of flying fish, which is common in the water surrounding Barbados, and the lady was kind enough to hold it up for us.

Take The Bus To Oistins, You Will See Sea Turtles There

Taxis are also available, but at ~$40 one way vs $1 for the bus we chose the less expensive option.  We did not want to miss our stop as we trekked out toward Oistins and fellow passengers helped ensure that we got off at the right spot. The Barbadians were the nicest people, more on that at the end. The bar above the seat though made me think that if there was a sudden stop you would chip your tooth, so sit back and relax.

Barbados - Boat in Harbor

This is probably the bluest water I have ever seen, now where are the Turtles?

Go For A Swim

Barbados - Oistens Beach Shoreline

We went swimming at the beach, but it is not very large. You also have pretty much no chance to swim with the Turtles, but this is a pretty good back up plan.

Surfer Cafe lunch spot in Barbados Barbados - View from Surfer Cafe in Oistens

@ Surfer’s Cafe, we passed this on the bus ride out and walked back to it after finishing with the beach. We headed back to the port after eating, which was a much more interesting adventure. A jitney (small van) picked us up and as we proceeded back into town school got out and our 8 seat van was crammed with at least 12 people. One of which was kind enough to breastfeed right next me, no coverage. When we got to the drop off spot we realized that it was not the same bus station we had departed from. There was a man who noticed we looked lost and offered to walk us back to the port. He guided us all the way back, 20-30 minute walk, wished us safe travels and walked off. Unbelievable kindness.  Find more Caribbean experiences!
